“her” new single out now
Anastasia Vol is a European songwriter and singer based in London, UK. She started performing back in 2009 as a part of a touring klezmer band. In 2015 she relocated to the UK for music degree and further career opportunities. Anastasia was featured on a couple of records as a session vocalist during the years of studying and released her first records “Runandhide”(2019) and “Lungs” (2020). Currently Anastasia is working as a collaborative songwriter on multiple projects and a session vocalist for soundtracks. Anastasia finds inspiration in old-school sounds, ethnic melodies and sentimental lyrics. Her voice is rather distinct and recognisable and her vocal performance is smoky and dewy.
About “her”
“Her” is a tune with ambiguous and dark energy. It is a song about deep sinister thoughts and jealousy, about attraction and confusion. Vocal delivery on this track is very subtle, melancholic and mysterious. Rather minimalistic arrangement of the tune creates the vision of intimacy of a small room or a dimly lit venue. The tune was recorded together with the producer, recording, mixing and mastering engineer Jose Manuel Cubides in late 2020 in his studio and features Paul Drilhon on keyboard. In the review for Lauder than war Sam Lambeth describes the tune as “smoky and mysterious, musically “her” has the subtle keyboards and free-form feel of a debauched Parisian music room. However, keeping it stripped back works wonders, pushing Vol’s thunderous vocals to the forefront. At points tender, at others tenacious, Vol’s amazing and far-ranging delivery is a masterclass in melancholy and mystery”.
Visuals are created by Imogen Mansfield, a visual artist, director and photographer who specialises in analogue art. She also directed the music video for “her” that is going to be released later this spring.
